Max Weber의 프로테스탄트 윤리와 자본주의 정신에 관한 법사회학적 고찰

In this article, Weber's thoughts on the background of the develop- ment of modern capitalism through review of Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism are analyzed. Noting a correlation that most middle-class citizens were protestant, Weber examined the relation of protestant ethics and the development of capitalism with respect to the sociology of religion. Protestantism, specially, the professed ethics of Calvinism supposes enthusiastic social activity, consciousness of calling, and that the subject who maintains a rational life as a desirable human character. Weber argued that the spirit of modern capitalism can be found in ascetic rationalism of protestantism, focusing on a rational character of certain religions. Protestant ascetic rationalism form sincere and ascetic image of people with occupation so that it contributed to the development of capitalism. This protestant ethic in occupation based on an ideal type and causality of Weber as sociological methodology. Sociological methodology used in 'Protestant ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism also contributed in explaining of the material civilization of modern society.
