현대 세시풍속에서 민속놀이의 존재 양상과 향후 전망－대구․경북 지방을 중심으로－

Seasonal customs reflect the lives of contemporary people in a condensed manner. Seasonal plays are part of seasonal customs, which have been a major foundation to incubate and pass down folk plays. As Korea moved from the traditional agricultural and fishing society to the modern industrialized and information society, however, Korea’s seasonal customs have gone through many changes, which then caused folk plays rooted in seasonal customs to rapidly disappear or alter. This study set out to examine changes to the foundation of seasonal customs to understand folk plays in modern seasonal customs. Taking another step from the conventional discussions that distinguished ‘seasonal’ from ‘plays’ in seasonal plays that account for a big part in folk plays, the study investigated them in the context of ‘changes of seasonal customs(foundation) → changes of seasonal plays(patterns)’. The development patterns of folk plays in modern seasonal customs were divided into “disappearance, survival, transmission, and new birth.” Having been performed naturally by a village community or play group at every major event of life in its close relations to it in the traditional society, seasonal plays are mostly gone, transmitted through institutional devices such as intangible cultural assets and local festivals, or performed in schools and venues of social education. At the same time, there are many new seasonal plays created in response to the changed seasonal customs.
