Examining the Impact of Police Formal Social Control on Social Cohesion and Informal Social Control

이 연구의 목적은 경찰의 공식적인 사회통제가 지역사회의 비공식적 사회통제 및 지역사회의유대에 미치는 영향을 경험적으로 검증하는데 있다. 통계적 검증을 위해 서울, 인천, 경기지역에서 33개 동을 선정하고 655부의 설문자료를 수집하였으며 위계선형회귀분석을 사용하여 분석하였다. 통계적 분석결과를 살펴보자면, 지역사회의 공식적인 사회통제는 지역사회의 유대와 비공식적 사회통제를 예측하는 중요한 요인임을 알 수 있었다. 특히 지역사회의 공식적인 사회통제는지역사회의 유대를 통제한 모델에서도 비공식적 사회통제를 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 한편,지역사회의 유대와 비공식적 사회통제에 지속적인 영향을 미치는 인구사회학적 변인으로는 연령이었으며 주택소유자의 경우 지역사회의 유대에 정적인 관련성을 나타내었다. 지역사회의 구조적인 특성 중 인구이동은 지역사회의 유대와 비공식적 사회통제에 부적으로 영향을 미치는 반면,지역주민들 간의 교류와 지역사회 조직에의 참여는 비공식적 사회통제에 무의미한 결과를 보여주었다.
Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to examine the impact of police formal social control on social cohesion and informal social control in communities. On the purpose of empirical test, the study uses the data from 655 subjects from 33Dongs around Seoul and performs hierarchical liner regression models. The findings show that police formal social control is a major factor to determine social cohesion and informal social control in spite of controlling social cohesion in the predicting model of informal social control. Among the characteristics of subjects, age is only a consistent factor influencing on social cohesion and informal social control. Meanwhile, home-ownership shows a positive relationship with social cohesion. However, residents' social interaction and participation in community organizations fail to show significant relations with informal social control.
