자원봉사활동 경험이 시민의식에 미치는 영향

This study investigated whether and how adults’ experiences of participating volunteering activities affect their citizenship. Administering surveys to adults of 19 years old and over who live in Gwangju metropolitan city, South Korea in 2009. An independent sample t-test and multiple regression analyses were conducted using 1,093 adults obtained from the survey. Those who had experiences of participating in volunteering activities obtained statistically significantly higher scores on citizenship scale than the other nonparticipants. Selecting 332 volunteers, multiple regression analyses were conducted. In this study four categories such as individual, affective, cognitive, and activity dimensions were used as independent variables and citizenship scale was used as a dependent variable in each multiple regression model. The results of analysis show that age from individual characteristics, altruism from the affective dimension, knowledge & perceptions of volunteering activities and definition of volunteerism from the cognitive dimension, and satisfaction with the volunteering experience, management, and placement of personnel from the affective dimension turned out to be the significant variables in each regression model. In the integrated model, the effect of each variable appeared in the order of definition of volunteerism, knowledge and perceptions of volunteering activities, altruism, placement, and religion. In order to enhance citizenship, education of volunteers, civic education, and management of volunteers in the participating organization are suggested.
