초록

This study analyzes college student smokers’ appetite for smoking in different smoking-related circumstances. To be more specific, the studied student smokers’ life styles (health-oriented style, chasing-new-fashion style, sexual-appealing style, shaping-nice-a-body style, seeking-convenience style) are classified by general characteristics (how much they smoke per day, existence of smokers among their family members, and their plans to quit smoking), personal background (their sex, education level, average monthly income, region, marriage, living type, and parents’ education level and income). Then, the differences in their life styles are analyzed in order to see if such differences have certain relationships with the smokers’ appetite for smoking. According to results from this study, it is found that the smokers who smoke more frequently per day and male smokers have higher appetite for smoking. Those with higher income and region have higher appetite for smoking than those with lower income and without religion. Moreover, the conditional linear regression is used in an effort to investigate what affects the smokers’ appetite for smoking, results from the regression discloses that male, average monthly income, and religion have an effect on smokers’ appetite for smoking. To conclude, going beyond the scope of a simple survey of individuals’ smoking status or encouraging smokers to quit smoking, this study places more emphasis on how college student smokers’ aforementioned general characteristics and background classified by the distinguished life styles affect their appetite for smoking.

Abstract

This study analyzes college student smokers’ appetite for smoking in different smoking-related circumstances.
