The Development of China's Automotive Industry and Measures to Counter the Global Financial Crisis

This paper presents an overview of the development of China’ automotive industry with emphasis on both its context in 2009 and policies to counter the global financial crisis. It analyzes the production evolution of China’ automotive industry from 1955 to 2009, and the structural development regarding automobile production, sales, companies, emerging car firms and ownership. The paper also makes some comparisons among the U.S., Japan and China, and BRIC countries. It gives a glance at public policies and measures made by China’ Central Government to counter the financial crisis. Finally, it proposes a future perspective, challenges, and possible solutions for China’ automotive industry.
