가족의 구조적 특성과 사회경제적 지위가 부모의 양육과 청소년비행에 미치는 영향검증

The purpose of this study is to make a comprehensive examination about the effects of structural characteristics of family and socioeconomic status(SES) on parenting behavior and delinquency. Specifically, this study aims to test a direct effect of external characteristics of family on juvenile delinquency and a mediating effect of parenting behaviors. To accomplish the goals, the data used in this study were the 5th year version of Korean Youth Panel Data, merged with the fourth grade elementary school students' data and the second grade middle school students' data. The results reveal diverse effects of structural characteristics and SES on parenting behaviors. Especially, children from single-father families are more likely to experience disadvantages in parenting manners of their father than single-mother families while juveniles from single-mother families are more likely to show problematic behaviors rather than those from single-father families. SES of the family becomes an important factor to determine the manners of parenting and the commission of delinquency so that children from low SES families are more likely to commit delinquent behaviors and to experience improper parenting. Juveniles' birth order slightly shows a weak effect on parenting and no effect on delinquency. Residency with grandparents unfortunately decreases the level of supervision, but also decreases serious delinquent behaviors. Lastly, depending on gender differential parenting practices exists which may effect on juvenile delinquency.
