기업의 사회공헌활동과 재무성과의 관계에 대한 연구

초록
본 연구는 최근 우리 사회에서 높은 관심 속에 활발하게 전개되고 있는 기업의 사회공헌 활동이 재무성과에 미치는 영향에 대하여 분석하였다. 기업의 사회공헌 활동이 재무성과에 영향을 미친다는 선의경영이론과 기업의 재무성과가 사회공헌 활동을 제고시킨다는 여유자원이론을 고찰하고 이를 바탕으로 가설을 도출하였다. 본 연구의 분석결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, t-1기의 사회공헌활동이 t기의 재무성과에 영향을 미치는가를 분석하였다. t-1기의 기업의 사회공헌활동은 t기의 수익성 관련 총자산이익률(ROA)와 매출액순이익률 및 안전성 관련 유동비율과 당좌비율에 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 기업의 전년도의 사회공헌활동이 다음 연도의 기업의 수익성과 안정성에 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 그러나 성장성 관련 매출액증가율에는 부의 영향을 주는 것으로, 총자산증가율과 자기자본증가율에는 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 기업의 t-1기의 재무성과가 t기의 사회공헌활동에 영향을 주는가를 분석한 결과 t-1기의 수익성 관련 총자산이익률(ROA)과 매출액순이익률 및 안전성 관련 유동비율과 당좌비율이 t기의 사회공헌활동에 모두 정의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 기업의 t-1기의 수익성과 안전성이 높을수록 t기의 기부금 지출을 통한 사회공헌활동에 영향을 미치고 있음을 보여주고 있다. 그러나 t기의 성장성은 사회공헌활동에 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 위의 두 가지 분석에 추가하여 본 연구는 기업의 사회공헌활동의 누적결과가 재무성과에 영향을 미치는가에 대하여 분석하였다. 과거 여러 회계기간에 걸친 사회공헌활동의 누적결과보다는 최근 연도의 사회공헌활동이 재무성과에 더 크게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
This paper has investigated the impact of corporate social responsibility which has recently drawn great attention in Korean society on financial performance. And this studt conducted an empirical analysis on the causal relations between good management theory which insists that corporate social responsibility has an impact on financial performance and slack resource theory which states that financial performance enhances corporate social responsibility. The result of this study can be summarized as follows:First, corporate social responsibility during t-1 period had a sequential effect on profitability and safety while it had a negative impact on sales growth rate in terms of corporate growth. In addition, it had no impact on total asset growth rate and growth rate of stockholders' equity. Second, corporations with high profitability and safety during t-1 period had a corporate social responsibility through donation during t period. However, growth during t period had no impact on corporate social responsibility. Third, corporate social responsibility would have a bigger impact on short-term financial performance than long-term performance.
