자본투자 의사결정에 있어서 보수주의 회계의 역할

초록
본 연구에서는 경영자의 회계적 의사결정과 운영의사결정이 상호 관련되어 있는지를 분석하였다. 또한 무형자산을 창출하기 위한 노력으로 연구개발비 지출, 광고선전비 지출, 교육훈련비 지출이 자본투자에 미치는 영향의 크기에 경영자의 회계적 의사결정인 회계처리의 보수성이 어떠한 역할을 수행하는지를 분석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자본투자를 종속변수로 한 회귀분석에서 회계처리의 보수성에 대한 회귀계수는 양(+)으로 유의한 것으로 나타나고 있어 회계처리를 보수적으로 할수록 기업의 자본투자수준은 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 연구개발비지출과 보수주의 회계의 상호작용항은 양(+)으로 유의적으로 나타나 경영자가 보수주의 회계를 할수록 연구개발비지출이 자본투자에 미치는 영향이 보다 더 강화된다는 것을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 교육훈련비지출과 보수주의회계의 상호작용항도 양(+)으로 유의적인 것으로 나타나 경영자가 보수주의 회계를 할수록 교육훈련비지출이 자본투자에 미치는 영향이 보다 더 커진다는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 그러나 광고선진비 지출과 보수주의 회계의 상호작용항은 통계적으로 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타나 광고선전비 지출이 자본투자에 미치는 영향은 보수주의 회계와는 관계없는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과는 경영자의 회계적 의사결정과 운영의사결정이 상호 관련되어 있으며, 경영자는 회계적 선택을 통해 자본시장에 신호를 전달하고 있음을 시사한다. 또한 기업의 무형자산에 대한 지출이 자본투자에 미치는 영향에 대해서도 경영자의 회계적 의사결정을 통해 그 관련성이 강화되고 있음을 시사한다.
Abstract
Intangible Assets are more important determinants of firm value than others in a digital information-based economy(Lev, 2001). Prior research reveals that investments in intangible assets such as R&D and advertising expenditures are associated with firm value. The conservative accounting is dependent on the manager's accounting decision and the capital investments depend upon the manager's operating decision. We examine the effects of the manager's accounting decision such as conservative accounting on the firms' capital investments. The empirical findings indicate that : (1) the firms' conservative accounting positively stimulates corporate capital investments; (2) the firms' R&D and training expenditures are positively correlated with firms' capital investments and the effects of the firms' R&D and training expenditures on the capital investments increase as the degree of conservative accounting increases Our findings suggest that managers' accounting decision stimulate operating decision about the capital investments.
