This research stems from the hypothesis that, while design techniques are digitalized, design media have easily intervened to diverse fields where the media are adopted for a novel design process and solution from the other domain. In other word, when new design media such as software or digital fabrication techniques are introduced for solving a particular problem, it consequently derives innovation as well as evolution of the design discipline. However, it is difficult to perceive relationships between design methods and results out of huge amounts of events influenced by design media. In digital design era, it became even more important to understand the context of new phenomenon and to find a novel solution by learning from precedents. This paper proposes developing a digital design chronicle platform that can produce comprehensive catalogs consisting of the relevant events in the context of historical background from diverse fields of design. The ultimate goal is to establish a information resource which diverse researchers and designers utilize for collaborative investigation and mutual inspirations. For prototyping, we selected the well-known collaborative working platform - Wiki as a base engine. Wiki supports multi-user editing, data sharing, and collaborative writing, which enables sustainable input and management along with massive data related to digital design by various participation. In sum, we implemented a wiki-based digital design chronicle system and demonstrated a research process on the system, which investigate form-making principle of freeform architecture along with the evolution of design media. This research addressed new possibilities in definition and range of digital design by proposing new frame and device to explore prospective digital media and to drive productive convergence among diverse disciplines of design.
