초록
In this paper, I discussed the functions of Bengali ending -e as well as the grammaticalization of its pre-final ending -e-chh-. This ending is originally a sort of connecting ending, which is similar to Korean morpheme –a/-e. This ending is also grammaticalized as a pre-final ending -e-chh- with the copula achh-, although this grammaticalization does not seem to be perfectedly completed. This is why the present tense ending is used on negating the perfect tense in Bengali. I tried to explain this grammatical issue by contrasting Bengali and Korean language, and I have argued that the difference between the talking tenses(besprechende Tempora) and the narrating tenses(erzählende Tempora) is important in Bengali grammar.
