대학생의 다문화 청소년 및 정책인식에 관한 탐색적 연구

이 연구는 다문화 가정의 자녀들이 곧 고등교육 수요자가 되는 시점에 직면하여 우리나라 대학생들의 다문화 청소년에 대한 인식을 탐색적으로 조사한 현황을 보고하려는 데 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서는 만 18세에서 23세 사이의 대학생 63명을 대상으로 질적 분석을 시도하였다. 그 결과 대학생들의 개인적 인식체계는 대부분 가족과 사회적 시선에 영향을 받고 있었다. 그 영향으로 대학생들은 다문화 청소년들을 ‘정체성 혼란’, ‘편견과 차별’, ‘배타적 반감’, ‘단계적 수용’ 등으로 분류하여 인식하고 있었으며, 이 결과에 따라 다문화청소년이 사회문제화 되는 원인을 유추 해석할 수 있었다. 대학생들의 다문화 청소년 인식을 유형별로 살펴보면 첫째, 다문화청소년들이 미래 우리사회에 미치는 영향을 고려하여 우리 사회를 세계화로 이끄는 역할을 할 것이라는 ‘기대형’, 둘째, 민족의식의 말살과 다문화정책에 제공되는 비용이 경제성장을 저해하고 있으며 향후 다문화청소년들의 사회문제가 크게 발생할 것이라는 ‘우려형’, 셋째, 긍정적인 측면과 부정적인 측면을 동시에 언급하며 결론을 유보하거나 다문화 청소년 문제에 대해 무관심한 ‘중도형’으로 분류되었다. 결과적으로 향후 사회 통합을 위해서는 일반 청소년과 다문화 청소년이 균형 있는 문화 인식과 문화 수용성을 배가시킬 수 있도록 하는 다각적 쌍방향 정책 프로그램을 제공할 필요가 있는 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
This article is to report an exploratory research result about the recognition of university students on multi-cultural youths. For this purpose, we performed qualitative analysis focusing on university students between the age of 18 and the age of 23. The result shows us that individual recognitions of university students were influenced by their family members and the biased social view. Due to the biased social view, multi-cultural youths were understood as 'identity confusion', 'prejudice and discrimination', 'exclusive antipathy', and 'gradual acceptance'. We can understand and infer the causes of social problems resulting from multi-cultural youths. Recognitions of university students participating in research program could be categorized into 3 different groups. First, 'hopeful expectation' type which regard multi-cultural youths as a positive engine that could gear our society to a globalized one, Second, 'pessimistic apprehension' type which think them as a potential social problem group such as annihilate national consciousness and impede economic growth wasting policy costs for them. Third, 'neutral or reserve' type which does not mention the conclusion or not showing off their interest in this problem. One of important implications withdrawn from this study is that if we want to achieve social integration, juveniles including university students should be exposed to the two-way-policy-programs offering the chances to hold balanced understanding in different cultures and enhance their cultural forgiveness and cultural acceptance tendency.
