INTRODUCTION TO FOREIGN INVESTMENTS IN SLOVAKIA

In recent years, Slovak Republic has witnessed robust economic growth and massive influx of foreign investments. The present contribution aims at identifying basic reasons behind these developments. It also provides an introduction to key areas of the Slovak law necessary for those who envisage entering the Slovak market. The first chapter of this contribution contains a brief presentation of the Slovak Republic, its recent economic reforms and relations with the Republic of Korea. The second chapter identifies three main reasons why the Slovak Republic has become an attractive destination for foreign investors: business friendly tax system, attractive investment incentives, and skilled and low‐cost labour force. The third chapter provides information on how to start a business in the Slovak Republic, with a particular emphasize on foundation of a limited liability company and purchase of real estate property. The fourth chapter analysis basic exit mechanisms available for those investors, who wish to terminate their business activities. Last but not least, the fifth chapter provides a brief overview of dispute resolution mechanisms before courts and arbitration tribunals.
