Adolescence's Self-Esteem and Parental Authority -in focus on the Christian Faith-

This study is to clarify the relation between Adolescence's self-esteem and parental authority. The groups observed in this study were 934 students from 9 junior high- and high schools located in metropolitan areas including Suwon, Anyang, Gwachon as well as Seoul. In this study are amended questionnaires of PAQ and HSS based on the preliminary inquiry on a child with authentic confidence. PAQ was deployed by John R. Buri in 1991 and HSS was deployed by Bruce R. Hare in 1985. Both of them were adapted by Joseph Jeon in 2004. Statistics are compiled from the collected data based on two-way ANOVA using SPSS(Statistical Package for The Social Science) 11.0 at Sungkyul University. The below are Conclusions: Firstly, a Adolescence's self-esteem is highly subject to his/her Parental authority. Those perceiving their parents' authority in a authoritative way posted the highest marks in terms of a Adolescence's self-esteem. On the other hand, those understanding their parental authority in an authoritarian way made lowest marks. Second, Christian fathers showed higher level of respect for his child's self-esteem at home. Lastly, there is no subordinate relationship between mathers' Christian Faith and a Adolescence's self-esteem at home upon parental authority. In conclusion, parents' Christian Faith (especially fathers') is functioning as a key factor in forming their child's sound self-esteem. And further on, Christian counseling and parental education program within church can substantially help solve the difficulties and problems children are undergoing.
