유한킴벌리 작업장 혁신의 구성 원리와 변용

지금까지 유한킴벌리 작업장 혁신의 구성 원리는 연구자들 사이에서 대체로 사회기술시스템인 것으로 정리되어 왔다. 그러나 1994년 유한킴벌리 대전공장이 준공된 이후 도입된 작업장 혁신의 구성 원리는 사회기술시스템의 온전한 적용이라고 해석하기 어렵다. 준공 당시에 이미 5S, 눈으로 보는 관리, 문제해결기법, 표준화, TPM 등을 비롯한 린 생산원리의 여러 요소들이 도입되어 실행되었다. 특히 표준화는 생산방식의 성격 규정과 관련하여 핵심적인 쟁점이 되고 있는 사항이다. 사회기술시스템 접근론자들은 표준화를 개별 작업자의 창의성과 자율성을 침해하는 테일러주의의 핵심 원리로 이해하며 이것을 작업자의 동기와 능력개발에 초점을 맞추는 인간중심적인 사회기술시스템과 반자율적 그룹작업의 원리와 대비시키고 있다. 따라서 이미 표준화가 체계적으로 도입되어 전면적으로 실행되고 있는 유한킴벌리를 사회기술시스템의 적용원리가 온전하게 관철되고 있는 사업장으로 파악하기 어렵다. 더욱이 2008년 린 기업으로의 전환 이후에는 쉽고 빠른 준비교체, 가치흐름 분석 등 한층 더 많이 린 생산요소들이 도입되었다. 이에 따라 작업장에서의 낭비와 여유시간을 박탈하고 소인화를 지향하는 목적의식적이고 체계적인 카이젠의 원리는 점점 더 유한킴벌리 작업장의 핵심적인 구성 원리가 되어가고 있다. 유한킴벌리 대전공장은 1994년도에는 사회기술시스템의 원리와 린 생산의 원리가 결합된 하이브리드형으로 출발했지만, 2008년 이후 린 생산의 비중이 점점 더 확대되어 가는 형식으로 진화 발전하고 있다는 것이 본 논문의 결론이다.
Abstract
This study gives a new insight into the principle of workplace innovation at Yuhan-Kimberly. This case study shows that Yuhan Kimberly already introduced the elements of lean production including standardization and Kaizen with the opening of Daezun plant in 1994. Particularly standardization has been an issue between the proponents of socio-technical system and lean production. One suggests that standards serve control tools intended to regulate the work of actors on the shop floor and another proposes that they contribute to organizational learning processes. So it is difficult to define the principle of workplace innovation at Yuhan-Kimberly as a kind of socio-technical system. Moreover it recently tried to introduce some additional elements of lean production after 2008. So this paper suggests that the principle of workplace innovation at Yuhan-Kimberly should be defined as 'hybrid' and lean elements has become powerful with time.
