인터넷사용, 일상긴장, 비행의 관계: 청소년패널자료의 분석

초록
이 연구는 인터넷사용과 일상긴장, 그리고 비행과의 관계를 다룸에 있어 긴장유발론, 긴장해소론, 비행기회노출론, 그리고 무관론을 제시하고, 그 중 어느 입장이 우세한지를 검증한다. 즉 인터넷사용은 긴장을 유발하여 비행에 정(+)적으로 작용하는지, 아니면 긴장해소로 비행에 부(–)적으로 작용하는지를 다룰 것이며, 아울러 인터넷사용이 긴장에 영향을 주는 것이 아니라 긴장이 인터넷사용에 영향을 주어 비행에 정(+)적으로 혹은 부(–)적으로 작용하는지를, 또한 인터넷사용과 비행은 모두 공통적으로 긴장에 의해 설명되어 그들간에는 아무 관계가 없는지를 살펴본다. 이 연구는 이러한 입장들을 고등학생 청소년패널자료를 분석함으로써 그 인과관계를 검증하며, 이때 인터넷사용을 교류, 오락, 정보추구의 세 가지 사용유형별로 구분해보고, 그리고 비행도 사이버비행과 현실비행에 각각 적용한다. 그 결과를 인터넷사용 유형별 분석결과를 중심으로 보면 오락시간이 많은 청소년은 학교긴장이 낮아 사이버비행은 적게 하지만 현실비행은 많이 하고, 학교긴장이 높은 청소년은 정보이용시간이 많아 현실비행을 적게 하지만 사이버비행은 많이 한다는 것을 제시한다. 이와 같은 분석결과를 통해 그 결과의 함의를 살펴본다.
Abstract
This study tests several hypotheses in explaining the relationship between internet usage and delinquency. This study intends to test whether internet usage increases strain and has a positive influence on delinquency or it reduces strain and has a negative relationship with delinquency. In addition, this study tests whether family and school strain have influence on internet usage, which increases or reduces delinquency. This study also investigates whether the relationship between internet usage and delinquency is spurious and both are explained by common factors. Using panel data from Korean Youth Panel Survey, this study tests those hypotheses and applies them to both online and offline delinquency across types of internet usage. Results show that entertainment internet usage has a negative effect on school strain, which reduces online delinquency but increases offline delinquency. In addition, it is found that school strain has a positive effect on internet information seeking activities, which has a positive relationship with online delinquency, but has a negative relationship with offline delinquency. Then, this study discusses implication from empirical results.
