맵핑을 통한 공간인식과 디자인 가능성 연구

Mapping is a visualized diagram. In recent times, designers and architects are using the level of mapping to create direct links to design products, not just stopping at visual presentation. In other words, mapping is perceived as a means of finding hidden possibilities, not just as a medium of information delivery which we have commonly perceived. Such a process is helpful for expanding the viewpoint of design and for creating link to creative, differentiated design work. The singularity of design is established by objective data, and perception and decision based on a subjective system. The waterfront of Gwang-Ju River was possessed of many potential genes. The difference became great due to the sporadic urban planning design between the old downtown and the new town. In spite of the execution various city programs, the connection remains blocked. In order to solve issue, the river’s surroundings have to be strategically operated. The role of the hub operating the city’s program has to be performed. So, the definition of the various elements through mapping is needed. The reconfiguration was based on the summary data including the traffic, cultural infrastructure, events, green zone, and etc. and the data was appropriately organized. The generated and various generation genes were overlapped and the possibility was discovered. A designer organizes the relationship between complicated design factors under a given condition and through subsequent optimum choice and combination, realizes design. The creative design process through mapping can be ultimately defined as the “integration” of heterogeneous and new factors, and the “reorganization” of their relationships.
