The Relationship between Entrepreneurial Traits and Entrepreneurial Intention and the Moderating Effect of Socio-cultural Background: The Case of Tourism and Hospitality Students

This study aims to investigate the relationship between entrepreneurial traits and entrepreneurial intention of university students in Korea and to examine the moderating effect of socio-cultural factors-entrepreneurial family orientation and gender. Using total of 265 samples of tourism and hospitality students, six entrepreneurial traits were identified including innovativeness, self-efficacy, risk taking propensity, control by chance, need for achievement, and internal locus of control. The results showed that all six traits have significant impacts on entrepreneurial intention. However, it showed that the impacts of entrepreneurial traits have been changed by gender and entrepreneurial orientation of family. This implies that entrepreneurial intention should be explained not only by individual’s psychological traits but also by socio-cultural factors which would influence individuals during their career decision process.
