스마트폰 애플리케이션의 사용자환경 디자인 속성이 사용의도에 미치는 영향

Today, smartphones have become an essential part of our daily lives due to their variety of useful usages. Even though smartphones are versatile, they still have less overall capabilities than traditional personal computers. They have small displays, low resolutions, and slow application processors, etc. These factors also make smartphone applications to have different types of user interfaces (UIs) where users interact with applications. Despite of this fact, however, there has been little research in the IS field on UI designs of smartphone applications. More specifically, little empirical evidence of the effects of UI design attributes, such as simplicity and consistency, of smartphone applications on the intentions to use has been documented. Thus, the aims of this study are to examine 1) the effects of UI design attributes of smartphone applications on the interaction between smartphone users and applicatioins as well as the effect of the interaction on user satisfaction and 2) the effect of the user satisfaction on the intention to use applications. University students and practitioners who have used smartphone applications participated in a survey. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed to analyse the data. The results of analysis showed that there were strong impacts of the UI design attributes on the interaction between users and applications. Also, there was strong relationship between the interaction and user satisfaction. Finally, this study found the strong effect of user satisfaction on the intention to use. The findings of this study imply that in order to boost smartphone users' intentions to use applications, it may be needed for application developers to prepare UI design standards adopting the design attributes for providing better interactions. Because a single empirical study is not enough to validate the findings, additional research is expected to follow up.
