초록
본 연구는 2000년부터 2010년까지 벤처확인기업으로인증된 기업을 대상으로 소속 산업별의 특성을 고려하여 가젤기업 여부를 선정한 후,수익성, 연구개발비, 고용창출능력 및 노동생산성 등의 측면에서 가젤기업의 특성을세부적으로 분석하였다. 분석결과, 가젤기업은 非가젤기업에 비해 총자산영업이익률 및총자본순이익률 등의 수익성이 클 뿐만 아니라 가젤기업 선정 이후 1년 및 3년 까지도지속적으로 수익성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 뿐만 아니라 연구개발비의 비중이 유의적으로높고 그로 인한 특허 보유 수준 역시 非가젤기업에 비해 높은 것으로 나타났으며 고용창출능력도 상대적으로 높은 것을 확인하였다. 특히, 고용수준 및 신규고용능력, 그리고 고용성장률 등에서 모두 높은 수준을 유지하여 가젤기업의 고용창출능력을 실증적으로 확인할수 있었을 뿐만 아니라 노동생산성 역시 높아 효율적으로 고용인원을 활용하고 있는것으로 나타났다. 종합적으로, 본 연구를 통해 가젤기업의 높은 수익성 및 연구개발비등으로 인해 고용창출능력이 높음을 직접적으로 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
Using venture firms over the period 2000~2010, we examine whether gazelle firms have different characteristics in terms of profitability, level of R&D and employment, and labor productivity compared to non-gazelle firms. Our results show that not only gazelle firms are highly profitable in ROA and ROE compared to non-gazelle firms, but also their subsequent profitability still remains higher after selected as gazelle firms. Interestingly, the level of R&D concentration in gazelle firms is significantly higher so that their number of patents and job creating ability are greater that those of non-gazelle firms. Furthermore, our evidence supports the view that gazelle firms have a more job creating ability as measured by the level of new employment and net employee growth rate. This finding suggests that gazelle firms use their employees efficiently, which results in higher labor productivity. Collectively, gazelle firms could create the high level of employment by having greater investment in R&D and profitability.
