Terminological suffixing as a tool for the creation of criminal law terms in Korean: aspects of translation into Russian and Ukrainian

The paper considers the means of terminological suffixing as a way to create terms of Criminal law in Korean language and suggests the translation of derivatives into Russian and Ukrainian. As a first step, a brief look at suffix definitions in Korean language, namely in its Sino-Korean lexicon, was taken. Then the definition of ‘terminological’ suffixes was considered in the paper. After that, based on these criteria, the legal terminology of Korean language was analyzed to select those units which are used in Criminal law and have been derived with the help of Sino-Korean terminological suffixes. The paper aims to give a proper translation to the corresponding terms into the two target languages. This is stipulated by the needs of inter-cultural communication and growing Korean-Russian and Korean-Ukrainian contacts. Unfortunately, the existing Korean-Russian and Korean-Ukrainian dictionaries do not provide the translation of many terminological units in focus. Thus, in order to fill this gap this article suggests an analysis of 8 terminological derivation patterns in the Korean language. As a result, the structure of 80 derived terms was studied and their suitable translations into Russian and Ukrainian languages were suggested.
