국민연금 국내주식 위탁 및 직접운용의 벤치마크 대비 초과 수익에 관한 연구

초록
본 연구는 2003년부터 2011년의 월간 자료를 이용하여 국민연금 국내주식 위탁운용과 직접운용의 벤치마크 대비 초과 수익 성과와 특징을 비교 분석하였다. 국민연금은 내부 인력을 통해 국내주식에 투자할 뿐 아니라 외부 운용사를 통해 간접적으로 주식투자를 한다. 국민연금이 외부위탁 운용사를 활용하는 것은 금융시장의 충격완화를 고려하면서, 외부 전문 펀드매니저들의 적극적 운용을 통해 수익을 창출하고자 한 것이다. 첫째, 국민연금 국내주식 위탁운용과 직접운용은 벤치마크 대비 초과수익을 통계적으로 유의하게 달성하였다. 국민연금 국내주식의 위탁운용성과는 벤치마크(KOSPI와 KOSDAQ100의 합성지수) 대비 월 0.19%(연 2.3% : 바용차감 후)의 초과수익률을 달성하였고, 국내주식 직접운용성과는 벤치마크(KOSPI200) 대비 월 0.09%(연 1.1% : 바용차감 후)의 초과수익률을 달성하였다. 둘째, Carhart의 4요인 모형을 사용하여 국민연금 국내주식 위탁운용와 직접운용의 벤치마크 대비 초과수익이 종목선택능력(알파), 기업의 규모요인(SMB), 가치요인(HML) 및 모멘텀요인(UMD) 중 어떤 요인에 의해 발생되었는지를 분석하였다. 벤치마크 대비 초과수익의 원천을 보면, 국내주식 위탁운용의 초과수익은 모멘텀 요인에 의해, 국내주식 직접운용의 초과수익은 주식선택능력에 의해 주로 발생한 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 국내주식 위탁운용은 직접운용에 비해 액티브하게 운용한 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
National Pension Services(NPS) managed their equity fund through consigning fund to outside fund managers and internal fund managers in order to achieve the reduction in their influence on financial market and risk reduction by diversifying their investment decision process. Therfore the methods to achieve excess returns by internal management and external managemnt in equity investment are expected to be different in terms of the fund manager’s skill and investment styles. Firstly, we found that superior performances over benchmarks of both consigned funds and internal managed funds are achieved during the sample period significantly. Secondly, the excess returns by external mangers are achieved through taking the factor risks over benchmarks, but the excess returns by internal managers are achieved through stock selection skills. Thirdly, we found that internal funds are managed by index-oriented relatively compared to external managed funds.
