I would study that the mainstream of modernization of furniture design(hereafter FD) in contemporary China, focusing on the two related theses as ‘Chinese styles’ and ‘elements of ancient FD.’ As for related theories, I would suggest that generalized and specificated FD theories. The theories of ancient FD have concluded that minds, formations and representations be the tendencies toward modernization according to the ‘Chinese elements’. The modernization in ancient Chinese FD contents had been three main trends as following the nature, ethicalized aesthetic mind, and abstraction and symbolization or narratives. The modernization of ancient FD had been expressed as dots and lines of fundamental elements in FD, re-construction of structure. And the other modernization efforts had been explained as materials, ornaments and emblems. In conclusion, I would suggest that first, the modernization of contents of ancient FD has been re-interpreted of ancient aesthetics and cultural thoughts and theories, second, the modernization of formations has been de-and re-structures and re functioned of fundamental elements, and third, the modernization of Chinese ancient FD would be the lessons for the modernization of ancient Korean FD.
