기술혁신과 경영 효율성 분석에 관한 연구: 한·중·일 철강기업 비교분석

본 연구는 기술혁신활동이 기업의 경쟁력의 중요한 원천임을 인식하고, 이를 효율성 분석모델에 중요한 투입변수로 포함하여 국내외 철강산업에 종사하는 기업들의 경영효율성을 분석하였다. 철강산업은 다른 산업의 기간산업으로서 중요성을 인식하면서, 이들 기업들의 경영효율성분석에 대한 체계적 연구가 부족하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 한국, 중국, 일본의 동북아 3개국 철강기업의 경영효율성을 자료포락분석방법(DEA: Data Envelopment Analysis)을 이용하여 비교 분석하였다. 기존의 경영효율성 분석 연구와 달리 효율성분석에서의 투입요소로서 기술혁신역량요소를 고려하고, 효율적 DMU들을 대상으로 Super Efficiency Model를 실시함으로서 순위분석도 함께 실시하였다는 점과 경쟁관계에 있는 한·중·일 3개국의 철강기업을 비교 분석하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다고 할 수 있다. 또한 규모의 변화에 대한 산출량의 반응 정도를 나타내는 RTS 측정과 효율적인 DMU에 대한 벤치마킹 참조빈도도 함께 분석하였다. DEA 모형을 통하여 획득한 기업의 효율성 정보를 바탕으로 로지스틱 회귀모형을 통한 기술혁신 활동과 효율성간의 관계를 실증 분석하였다. 분석결과, 각국 기업들이 기술혁신을 통하여 경영효율성이 증대될 수 있도록, 철강기업들에게 비효율의 크기, 벤치마킹해야 하는 효율적 기업제시, 효율적 기업이 되기 위한 투입요소에 대한 관리 등에 대한 실무적 시사점을 제공하였다.
Abstract
Recognizing the significance of the role of steel industry in the development of national economy and the innovation capability as a key source of firm's competitive advantage, this paper evaluated the efficiency of steel firms with special reference to Korea, Japan and China. Using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and super efficiency models, the paper has investigated the critical factors that determine the efficiency of management performance. As applied technological innovation as input factors, the paper highlighted their role in measuring management efficiency. By using super efficiency model with CCR and BCC models, our study provided practical information for inefficient firms to find benchmarking firms and to improve their efficiency. Our result from comparative analysis across Korea, Japan and China offers important implications for Korean steel firms as well as other developing countries who are in the process of improving their global competitiveness.
