현상학적 디자인프로세스를 적용한 서울디자인센터 실내디자인 연구

연구배경 한국전통의 모티브를 공간으로 형상화하는 작업은 우리나라 실내디자이너들의공통된 과제로 인식하고 있음이 분명하다. 그러나 동일 문화권에서 분명한 차별성을 세계적보편성으로 발전시킨 일본과 비교할 때 그 모범사례의 제시와 발굴이 아쉬운 상황이다. 이는 유형학적 접근이 용이한 일본 전통공간의 조형성에 비해, 한국 전통공간의 조형성은현대적인 디자인으로 유형화하기 어려운 관계중심의 형이상학적 조형의식에 기반을 두고있기 때문이다. 연구방법 서울디자인센터의 실내디자인 방법은 작가개인의 창의적 차별성을 추구하는 오늘날의 파토스적 감성디자인의 시대에 부합하도록 다학제적 디자인프로세스를 적용하여한국전통공간의 현대화를 구현하는 것이다. 이 과정에서 디자인방향설정 단계에 의존하여형상적 지침에서 다시 형상을 도출하는 유형학적 접근을 지양하고, 다학제적 리서치에서얻어진 개념에서 형상을 도출하는 현상학적 디자인프로세스(Phenomenological DesignProcess)를 제시한다. 연구결과 서울디자인센터의 공간은 한국 디자인의 형이상학적 개념 중 하늘을 향한 추상성에 주목하여 마치 부력에 의해 부유하는 공간덩어리들로 형상화함으로써 CHAOSMOS라는디자인 컨셉를 구현하였다. 또한 공간 기능의 주제인 군자의 디자인 구현을 위하여 디자인된 형태들에 인간행태적 지원성(Affordance by behavioral setting)을 부여하고, 디지털 3차원 곡면설계를 활용한 구축방법을 제안하였다. 결론 이 작품연구를 통해 우리전통공간의 현대화에 보다 적합한 현상학적 디자인프로세스를 제시하였고, 그 형상화와 구축 과정에서 오늘날의 도구인 디지털기술을 적극 활용하여전통적 개념을 재창발함으로써 세계적 보편성을 획득하는 디자인 실험을 진행하였다.
Abstract
Background While it is evident that embodying Korean traditional motifs in space isa common challenge for Korean interior designers, unfortunately the reality is that thepresentation and excavation of the best practices are insufficient comparing to Japan,which has developed a clear difference to the universality of the world in the sameculture. This is because while the formativeness of Japanese traditional space has easyaccess to the typological approach, the formativeness of Korean traditional space is basedon a relationship-oriented metaphysical formative consciousness that is difficult to bematerialized to modern designs. Methods The aim fo the interior design methods of Seoul Design Center (SDC) is toembody the modernization of Korean traditional space by applying an interdisciplinarydesign process in order to coincide with the era of the emotional designs of Pathosthat seek the creative differences among designers. During this process, the typologicalapproach that derives forms from the formal guidelines depending on the designdirection step is sublated, and the phenomenological design process that draws formsfrom the concepts as a result of interdisciplinary research is presented. Results The lower floor part space of SDC embodied the design subject, CHAOSMOS,by paying attention to abstraction towards the sky among the metaphysical concepts ofKorean designs and giving shape to chunks of space that float by buoyancy. Furthermore,in order to realize the design theme of a man of virtue, affordance by behavioral settingwas given to the designed forms and a digital three-dimensional surface design was used. Conclusion By conducting this research work, a more suitable phenomenologicaldesign process was presented for the modernization of Korean traditional space. Additionally, the best practices design, in other words, the realization of a design conceptthat acquires the universality of the world by revamping traditional concepts throughthe combination of today’s tools of digital technology and the process of embodying andconstruction was realized.
