초록
그래픽디자인 역사를 돌아보면 당시 흐름을 이끌던 디자인스타일은 변화를 거듭해 왔다. 모더니즘에서 포스트모더니즘으로 그리고 해체주의로 그러나 지금은 단순한 추상 도형과 절제된 타이포그래피, 컨셉이 강하게 드러나며 실험적인 디자인 스타일로 대표되는 네덜란드디자인스타일이 주목 받고 있다. 네덜란드는 합리적인 이념이 바탕인 데 스틸 등이 디자인 이념의 근간이 되었고, 유럽 여러 나라들과 인접한 지리적 특성을 갖고 있었기 때문에 예술 및 문화적 교류가 활발할 수 있었다. 이를 기반으로 인접학문과의 연계, 통합 교육의 중요성을 인식하고 이를 적극 수용한 정부와 공공기관이 있었다. 또한 문화 영역의 활성화는 디자이너들에게 다양한 경험과 실험의 토대가 될 수 있었다. 이렇게 양상 된 디자인 결과물들은 다양한 미디어를 통해 전 세계로 퍼져나갈 수 있었고, 네덜란드의 디자이너들은 국제적인 활동은 물론 세계적으로 명성을 얻을 수 있는 기반이 될 수 있었다. 그래픽디자인에서 네덜란드디자인스타일의 패러다임 특성은 모더니즘을 일부 수용하면서도 작가만의 개성으로 재해석재탄생시키며, 개념적 구조적 사고를 바탕으로 포스트모더니즘의 비판적이고 실험적인 면이 강하게 드러나는 디자인으로 요약될 수 있다. 네덜란드디자인스타일의 전개과정과 형성배경을 통해 그 현재적 패러다임의 특성을 살펴보는 것은 그들이 창조하는 조형언어와 실험정신, 그리고 표현 경향을 통해 현 시대에 맞는 디자인 비전과 미래의 비전 방향을 모색하기 위함이다.
Abstract
Looking back the history of graphic design, we see that the design style that has led the flow of each time has been continually changed. From modernism to postmodernism and to deconstructivism, but now the Dutch design style which shows strong concept and moderate typography as well as simple abstract figures and is explained as the experimental design style is being highlighted. The Netherlands is grounded on reasonable ideology, and such things as steel could be the basis of design ideology. And geographically, since it is close to several European countries, it was possible to make both artistic and cultural exchanges aggressively. Based on this, recognizing the importance of connected and integrated education with related sciences, the government and some public institutions adopted it positively. Also, the vitalization of the cultural area could be the ground for experiments as well as various experiences for the designers. The outcomes of design produced in this way could spread to the whole world through various media, and it could be the ground that Dutch designers could not only perform international activities but gain fame internationally. In graphic design, the paradigm of the Dutch design style accepts modernism partly but recreates it through reinterpretation based on the artist’s own uniqueness. Based on the conceptual and structural thinking, it can be summed up as design that shows the critical and experimental aspects of postmodernism intensively. It can be said that studying the significance of the current paradigm of it based on the development and background of formation of the Dutch style means a lot at the point to grope for design vision and also future vision right for this time through the meaning of expression as well as the formative language they create and experimental spirit.
