The Process of Adherence to WTO of the Republic of Moldova

This scientific article is composed of four parts, namely introduction, compendious analysis on the political and economic background of the Republic of Moldova and its’ process of accession to WTO, and finally the conclusion. Therefore, the introductory part provides a general presentation on the negotiating and accession process to WTO of the Republic of Moldova, so that showing which commitments were taken to contribute to the country's economic development and poverty alleviation. Also, the introduction refers to the socio-economic and political factors which contributed to the appearance of the Republic of Moldova’s WTO membership necessity. The second part of paper approaches the historical past in the context of which were formed the political and socio-economic systems of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, one of the greatest perspectives of Moldova’s economic growth is the development of agricultural sector whichnowadays because of the lack of modern agricultural technologies, loss of markets, and limited domestic consumptionit got seriously affected. In the economy of the Republic of Moldova predominates the agricultural sector where is concentrated the largest part of labor force which brings the highest income in the state budget. The economic development of a developing country such as the Republic of Moldova depends on the export of agricultural goods on the international market. The third part of paper address the process of negotiating and adherence to WTO of the Republic of Moldova emphasizing on the trade policy and practices vis-a-vis WTO laws and regulations. Also, it puts accent on the main aims of adherence to WTO such as the possibility to use the WTO legal frame of international trade and accelerate Moldova’s integration within the world trade. Therefore, the multilateral forum such as the World Trade Organization enables Moldova to establish durable trade relations with more than 140 WTO full-fledged member countries. The World Trade Organizationhas the purpose to eliminate international trade barriers by encouraging its full - members to respect the provisions of WTO legislation and the fundamental principles of the trading system. Therefore, the government of the Republic of Moldova adopted a series of legislative acts to be conformed to the legislative framework of WTO. Consequently, it creates a secure business entourage and guarantees the development of trade relations with other foreign countries.
