초록
고삐 풀린 자본주의의 역기능은 이제 제도적인 도구에 의해 제어 될 수 없게 되었다고 본다. 이러한 맥락에서 생각해 볼 때, 시장 자본주의는 심각한 위기로 치닫고 있다고 보지 않을 수 없는 것이다. 시장자본주의 종착역은 피라미드 구조의 양극화 사회인데, 이는 사회 붕괴의 직전의 단계라고 우려하지 않을 수 없다. 일찍이 칼 마르크스(Karl Marx)가 지적한 자본주의의 내재적 모순과도 흡사한 것으로 사료된다. 시장자본주의가 맞이한 첫 번째 위기는 1929년에 발생한 경제공황(Great Depression)이다. 이때의 공황은 시장자본주의가 탄생한 이후, 최대의 경제위기로 간주되고 있다. 아직도 경제공황의 정확한 원인들에 관하여 정확히 밝혀지지는 않았지만, 당시 경제구조의 양극화와 이에 따른 유효수요(effective demand)의 부족을 그 원인으로 지적하는 주장도 제기된 바 있다. 2008년 가을에 미국 월가(Wall Street)에서 유발된 금융위기가 제 2의 경제공황이 되지 않을 까 크게 염려하였다. 신자유주의가 독주하는 와중에 일어났던 경제위기여서 심각한 우려를 야기 시켰다고 본다. 이 시점에서 우리는 시장자본주의에 대한 대안(alternatives)을 찾아보고자 한다.
Abstract
The negative function of market economy is so enormous that it is no longer under the control of the existing institutionalized tools. Thus, the current market economy is now in crisis. The market economy is destined to reach the worst structure which is extremely polarized. It may collapse soon due to the inherent contradictory structure, as Karl Marx predicted in the 19th century that capitalism would fail because of its internal problems. The first crisis was the Great Depression in 1929. It has been known that the Crisis resulted from effective demand. The next one was the financial crisis that began in Wall Street in 2008. Fortunately, it was not great depression. In fact. market economy has produced serious defects. This article attempts to explore an alternative system to New Liberalism which predominates the world economy.
