국내 10대 주력산업의 성장요인 분석

초록
1995년 이후의 기간을 대상으로 국내 10대 주력산업의 성장요인에 대한 분석을 실시해 보았다. 특정 산업의 산출량 변화에 국내수요증대, 수출증대, 기술변화, 수입대체 중 어느 요인이 가장 큰 영향을 미쳤는지를 살펴보았다. 1990년대 후반기에는 10대 주력산업 전반에 걸쳐 수출증대 요인이 산출량 변화에 가장 큰 기여를 한 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 2000년대 전반기에는 섬유 산업이 기존의 수출주도형에서 내수주도형으로 바뀌었으며, 일반기계 산업은 국내수요증대가 수출증대 못지않게 성장에 큰 기여를 한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 2000년대 전반기에 가전 산업은 마이너스 성장을 기록하였는데 여기에는 수출과 수입대체 효과의 동시 감소가 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 2000년대 후반기에는 10대 주력산업 중 다수의 산업에서 성장 동인의 변화가 발생하였다. 섬유와 일반기계 산업은 내수주도형 성장을, 자동차와 가전 산업은 수입대체형 성장을, 조선은 기술변화형 성장으로 각각 동인이 바뀌었다. 이들 요인 중 특히 내수주도형 성장요인의 약진이 두드러지는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 국내 10대 주력산업의 성장 동인이 과거 수출주도형에서 최근에는 내수주도형으로 변화해 가고 있음을 알 수 있다. 주요 선진국의 경우 내수 비중이 높다는 점을 감안할 때 우리나라도 산업구조가 서서히 선진국형으로 바뀌어가고 있는 것으로 판단된다.
Abstract
This paper analyses the growth factors of 10 key industries in korea using an input-output structural decomposition analysis. The paper decomposes the output growth of each industry in terms of its four sources of growth: domestic demand expansion, export expansion, technological change (intermediate demand expansion), and import substitution. The 10 key industries chosen in the paper are general equipment, semi-conductor, display, shipbuilding, information & communication technology, petrochemistry, textile, automobile, steel, and consumer-electronics. During 1995-2000, all the 10 key industries can be labeled as export-oriented industries. Then the textile industry only among 10 key industries transformed from the export-oriented industry to the domestic demand-oriented industry for the periods between 2000 and 2005. And both the textile and the general equipment industries are classified as domestic demand-oriented industries during the second half of 2000s (2005-2009). It means that the main growth factor of 10 key industries is changing from the export expansion to the domestic demand expansion as time goes by. Hence we conjecture that the economic structure of korea is evolving into that of the developed countries.
