교육수준에 따른 차별적 비혼구성비와 이혼구성비 분석: 1995∼2010

이 글의 목적은 외환위기 이후 전염병처럼 확산된 비혼과 이혼 현상을 혁신전파이론에 근거하여 설명하고, 그것의 유용성을 제시하는 것이다. 우선적으로 이 연구는 1995년, 2000년, 2005년, 2010년 인구센서스를 이용하여 교육수준에 따른 비혼구성비와 이혼구성비를 성별 및 연령별로 분석하였다. 혁신전파이론에 따르면, 비혼과 이혼과 같은 혁신 행위는 초기 단계에서 교육수준이 높은 사람들이 일차적으로 수용하지만, 그 행위의 수용이 혜택이 될 수 있다는 인식이 점차 확산되면서 단기간 내에 교육수준이 낮은 사람들로 전파된다. 전파과정에서 교육수준이 낮은 사람들이 높은 사람들보다 큰 폭으로 수용하게 되면서 혁신 행위와 교육수준 간의 관계는 점차 정적에서 부적으로 바뀐다. 여성―특히, 최근 출생코호트―의 경우, 이혼은 이러한 과정이 거의 수용되어 보편화된 것처럼 보이지만 비혼은 아직 전파과정에 머물러 있는 것처럼 보인다. 반면 남성의 비혼과 이혼은 혁신전파이론이 적합한 설명틀을 제공하지 않는다. 남성의 교육수준별 비혼구성비와 이혼구성비 패턴들은 최근 코호트 그리고 최근 시기로 올수록 보다 강한 부적관계를 보인다.
Abstract
This study is aimed at examining the Innovation-Diffusion (ID) theory on explaining a social phenomenon associated with non-marriage and divorce among Koreans after the 1997 economic crisis. Study used data drawn from a series of census(1995, 2000, 2005, and 2010) to analyze the effects of gender and age along with educational attainment in order to find out the continuous increase in non-marriage and of divorce in Korea. In theory, ID in particular illustrates that innovative behaviors (IBs) such as non-marriage and divorce are adapted firstly by the higher educated or people in the upper class. IBs, then, would eventually trickle down to those with the lower educational profile persons as perceptions on the taking of those behaviors makes no harm and barriers to those behaviors become weaker. Study found that in case of the female, diffusion processes of divorce became more evident in recent age-cohort whereas those of non-marriage are still undergoing. In the contrary, ID theory seems no effective in explaining similar phenomena among male Koreans. Moreover, negative associations between non-marriage (and divorce) behaviors and the socioeconomic status become more stronger in recent birth-cohorts and periods.
