초록

The purpose of this study is to discuss the discrimination and alienation that women who immigrated to Korea through marriage experience from the perspective of social-exclusion. This study identifies the current status of social-exclusion that the women experience, and proposes the resolutions for the social-exclusion. Since women who immigrated to Korea through marriage can legally achieve Korean nationality after two years of entry, they experience social-exclusion from beginning. Furthermore, they experience various discriminations from employment, workplaces, legal system, and family life. Based on a survey targeting women who immigrated to Korea through marriage, this study identified few interesting findings. First, the women frequently manage their everyday life under relatively controlled environment due to social, cultural exclusion. They are also excluded from neighbors due to the sense of rejection against foreigners. Second, the women suffer from economic exclusion more than political exclusion. They currently have difficulties in managing family life due to financial issues. Third, the reason for the women to mostly come to Korea is to earn money. However, they suffer from mental hardness since their low income makes it hard to wire money to their families in their native countries. On the other hand, they feel positive about the social benefits from governments and local authorities. In conclusion, Korean governments and society need to take actions that change the images of the women. The actions include to develop social network of multi-cultural women and to avoid discrimination in the women. Above all, it is necessary to reduce their inconveniences in everyday life; to fairly provide political opportunities; to minimize their psychological discomfort by providing economic opportunities through job creation; and to provide legal systems that support them to live as one of korean people.
