그레마스 이론에 의한 전시디자인의 의미작용에 관한 연구-키슬러의 금세기의 예술 전시디자인을 중심으로-

(Background and Purpose)Exhibition design is one of many behaviors that originate from human desires. The nature of exhibition design changes constantly according to the relevant culture; however, its evolution is not affected by boundary distinctions. Therefore, a theoretical model to analyze the structural meaning of exhibition design is required. In accordance with A. J. Greimas's semiotic square, by which an analytic discourse for nonverbal spaces can be made, this study presents an in-depth analysis for signification and usefulness of the theory's discourse. (Research Scope)As a research exercise, four exhibition designs were examined for their significance regarding exhibition design trends. For example, F.J. Kiesler's “Art of this Century” was subject to the signifier, ; further, it was analyzed according to Greimas's semiotic square through a three-level-structure. (Conclusion)Results of this study indicate that, it is possible to interpret hierarchically the connotation of an exhibition. Thus, Greimas's semiotic square was verified as having meaningful value as an academic tool; additionally, its distinctiveness among general exhibition designs was confirmed.
