The effects of a regular education to franchisees on business management outcome in the food-service franchise area

This study is to investigate potential characteristics of the domestic food-service franchise system as a result of the recognition of limitations in research areas. 400 copies of questionnaire were distributed in March 2012 to Korean franchise restaurants located in Seoul and Kyonggi area. Out of 345 collected copies, 330 copies were used for analysis after excluding incomplete responses. In particular, educational impact of franchisees on financial and management outcomes, a discover of advantages and disadvantages of the food-service franchise system with possible improvements will be focused. Through the investigation of current conditions of the system, we will provide a number of suggestions to develop a healthier franchise system in the food-service area. Our study indicates two important findings: (1) except for a management know-how training within many franchisee training sessions, all of the sessions including franchisees, employees, management activity sessions showed a positive influence on a financial outcome. (2) a critical reason for a success and a failure of franchisees in the food-service franchise business area, is dependent upon a competency of franchisers and franchisees. This has been validated by previous studies and affects a financial outcome of both franchisees and franchisers.
