디자인계열 재학생의 업사이클링 디자인 교육에 관한 연구

(연구배경 및 목적)디자인을 전공한 학생들은 졸업 후 사회로 진출하여 미래의 산업사회를 책임지고 갈 중요한 의무와 역할을 담당하게 된다. 따라서 현재의 급변하는 환경적 측면에서 볼 때, 미래에 필요로 하는 디자인이 무엇이고, 어떻게 준비해야하는지 알아야 할 의무가 있다. (연구방법)이에 따라 본 연구에서는 지구온난화 방지에 기여를 한 영화 한 편과 업사이클링 디자인을 다룬 다큐멘터리 한 편에 대해 각각 시청 전과 후로 구분하여 두 번의 설문조사를 실시하였다. (결과)조사 결과, 많은 학생들이 시청각 자료에 대해 교육 전과 후의 차이가 크게 나는 것으로 조사되었다. 그 중, 환경문제의 심각성과 쓰레기(폐기물)의 재사용/재활용에 관한 질문에는 교육 전과 교육 후의 변화는 크지 않았다. 반면, 업사이클링 디자인의 활성화 및 필요성을 묻는 질문에서는 동영상 시청 전에는‘그렇다’와‘보통이다’로 응답한 학생들이 시청 후에는‘매우 그렇다’로 응답한 것으로 조사되었다. 결국, 환경과 업사이클 교육을 통해 학생들의 편견을 변화시킬 수 있었으며, 관심을 가지게 하는 계기가 되었다.
Abstract
(Background and Purpose)Design-majors recognize their responsibilities and roles in meeting the challenges of our industrialized society in the future. Therefore, they anticipate the kind of design needed and prepare proactively for a rapidly changing social environment. (Method)As part of this research, a film documentary regarding upcycling design was produced in recognition of the need to prevent global warming. Two questionnaires were distributed to viewers(before and after viewing).(Result)Consequently, many students expressed their views about the subject before and after viewing the audio-visual material. Answers about the severity of environmental problems and the reuse and recycling of wastes were not very different before and after participants watched the video. To questions regarding the need for upcycling design, however, students who answered ”Yes, it is,” or “It is generally so” before watching the video responded with stronger acknowledgements regarding the need after watching it. Therefore, education was found to alter antagonistic views and generate actual interest in the proposal for upcycling.
