고 연령층을 위한 휴대폰 디자인 사례연구

초록
의학의 눈부신 발전과 경제적 풍요, 출산율의 저하 등사회문화적 변동요인이 가져온 사회의 급진적 노령화는 이에 상응하는 충격완화의 사회시스템이 채 완성되기도 전에 우리에게 찾아왔다. 노년층이 급증하는 가운데 이들을 지원하는 사회보장체제도 체계적으로 구축되지 않았으며 일상생활에서 접하게 되는 공공시스템,주거 공간 및 생활용품에 대해 전혀 배려되지 않거나이제 시작단계일 뿐이다. 연령의 차이가 가져오는 시스템 적응능력의 차이는크다. 따라서 다양한 분야에서 고 연령층을 위한 연구가 요구되며, 그 결과는 사회 시스템에 바로 반영되어야 한다. 유아를 위한 용품이 따로 개발되는 것과 마찬가지로 고 연령층을 위한 제품의 개발도 요구되는 것이다. 소통의 방식이 바뀜에 따라, 성별과 연령의 구분 없이다양한 사람들에 의해 사용되는 휴대폰은 일상의 필수품이 되었다. 초등학생으로부터 70대 할아버지에 이르기까지 광범위한 사용자 군을 갖고 있으면서도 각 사용자 군의 신체적 특성이나 인지적 능력을 고려한 제품들은 필요성에도 불구하고 제대로 개발되지 않고 있다. 본 연구는 문헌조사를 통해 발달이론상의 노년기 특성을 조사하고 고 연령층을 위한 제품 디자인 고려사항들에 대한 선행연구들을 추적하였다. 또한 포커스그룹 인터뷰를 통하여 고 연령층의 요구사항을 도출하였고, 국내외의 제품개발 사례들을 살펴보고 선행연구의고려사항들을 기준으로 사용성 저해요소들을 정리하였다. 이를 통해 고 연령층을 위한 휴대폰 개발 시에 고려해야할 유의항목을 제시하고자 하였다.
Abstract
The socio-cultural fluctuation factors such asremarkably fascinating medical development andeconomic affluence as well as rapid dropping of birthrate has brought us a naturally catastrophic disasterof aging society while the society itself is not equipped with a system which can respondeffectively to alleviate the devastating impact ofaging society. The elderly population has increaseddramatically. However, there has no social welfaresystem put in place, and the social net to supportthose who in need is not well established enough tohandle their needs for space, products. The Koransociety is only about to realize the desperate needsfor the elderly. The elderly is not prepared to deal with the newsystem changing daily in this rapidly developingsociety. As there are needs for baby products, theproducts specifically designed for the comfort of theelderly should be considered. Now, people are more accustomed to communicateindirectly via cell phones. Cell phones are widelyused indiscriminately throughout different agegroups. Yet, cell phones are not designed specificallyfor a certain age group like the elderly to fullysatisfy their needs. The different levels ofrecognition level dependent upon various age groupsshould be given a serious consideration whendesigning a certain product. In this paper, throughout a great deal of literatures,the researches were made to pinpoint what would bethe defining characteristics of the elderly and to findout how the development theory impacted ondesigning products for the elderly. Focus-groupswere interviewed to see what would be the mosturgent needs for the elderly. Also, domestic andforeign product design cases were studied to seewhat would undermine the functionality of productsfor the elderly. In conclusion, I attempt to draw anuseful items to be considered when designing cellphones for the elderly.
