라벨《볼레로》의 무용음악적 특성 연구

The purpose of this study is to research the value of M. Ravel's “Bolero” as a dance music. To prove its validity, Béjart's dance video was used. According to the analysis of the characteristics of four main factors in the work, i.e. rhythm, melody, dynamic and orchestration, “Bolero” epitomizes the values as a dance music by the followings: 1.Simplicity: This music is very simple in form and dynamics. Specific rhythm and melodies are repeated throughout the whole work. 2.Dance rhythm: This music is based on the bolero dance rhythm. 3.Exotic melodies: This music has 2 exotic, mysterious melodies. 4.Repetition: Thematic melodies are repeated 18 times, the bolero rhythm is repeated 169 times. 5.Colourful orchestration: Character and colour of each instruments are brilliantly showed up. 6.Powerful ending: The ending is very exciting and impressive. In conclusion, “Bolero” is composed on the dance music style, especially in its bolero rhythm, exotic mood, and colourful orchestra. It is an outstanding dance music which can help experimental dance composition succeed. Therefore this study is highly expected to contribute to create an idea for choreography.
