With recently increasing oil spills, companies are incurring massive losses, including financial losses, impaired corporate images, and the severance of client relations. Therefore, companies are making greater efforts to protect their technologies and management is increasingly paying attention to investment in the protection of technologies. However, measuring the effects of protecting technologies presents some difficulties. Thus, companies tend to limit the protection of their technologies to the domain of security management, without recognizing protection as a strategic business value that helps produce economic or technical output. As a result, the expansion of investment in the protection of technologies has been limited. This may be because studies on investments in technical protection, in particular, the analysis of economic and technical performance, have been inadequate. To that end, this study researched the effects of the activities of companies in protecting their economic and technical performance technologies.
