또래조정을 통한 갈등해결에 관한 연구

Conflict is a natural part of society. Resolving conflicts in a positive way paves the way for social development and change, while settling them in a destructive way results in social division and disruption. It is an important quality of a citizen in a democratic society to make proactive efforts to resolve conflicts based on the awareness that individual and social development is promoted when conflicts are managed constructively. Indeed, students can have the opportunity to participate in social and political activities through the process of conflict resolution, thus acquiring the qualities and capabilities expected of a good citizen in a democratic society. Peer mediation is a way of resolving conflicts among students by means of mediation with the help of peer mediator. This study defines peer mediation as the use of mediation that is an alternative dispute resolution in order to deal with mutual conflicts among students. It becomes easier to create an cooperative environment for conflict resolution as peer mediation facilitates interactions among students who have much in common. Peer mediation involves rationality in terms of it’s process because it is implemented on the basis of certain procedures and steps. It also involves rationality in terms of it’s content because the participants concerned with a conflict try to reach an agreement which satisfies everyone. Proceeding from this, one can logically assume that peer mediation is a rational mean of handling conflict.
