그래픽 디자인에 나타난 치졸미(稚拙美)에 관한 연구

초록
절대적 ‘아름다움(美)’은 완벽한 비례와 조화로부터 나온다는 고전적 미에 대한 개념이 새로운 미디어의 등장과 함께 변화하고 있다. 시대의 흐름에 따라 이상적인 미의 기준은 성별, 직업, 교육 정도, 기후, 인종, 나이, 윤리관 등과 같은 다양한 외적 조건에 영향을 받으며 변화해 왔다. 하지만 미의 영역과 미추(美醜)에 대한 양분화 된 개념은 크게 바뀌지 않았다. 오늘날 산업화를 비롯한 급격한 시대적 변화와 끊임없이 새로운 모습을 요구하는 미디어의 발전을 경험하면서 기존의 미적 이상에 대해 거부감과 지루함을 느끼고 개성적이고 흥미로운 감성들을 새롭게 미의 영역에 편입시키고 있다. ‘미(美)’와 반대 개념으로 여겨졌던 ‘추(醜)’는 더 이상 부정이 아니라 아름다움의 또 다른 영역으로 여겨지고 있다. 특히 오늘날 디자인에 담긴 다양한 유형의 ‘치졸미(稚拙美)’는 숭고하고 고전적인 미의 엄격한 형식에서 벗어나 자유롭고 다양한 영역의 감성을 표현한다. 본 연구에서는 이상적인 미의 변화를 시대적 배경과 함께 논의해 보고, 치졸미의 등장 배경과 개념, 유형별 특징과 사례를 분석하여 오늘날 미적 표현감성의 변화와 그래픽 디자인에 나타난 표현 감성의 변화를 인식하고자 한다.
Abstract
The classical notion of beauty which indicated that absolute ‘beauty’ is a result of perfect proportion and balance is now changing with the emergence of new media. In accordance with the stream of times, ideal standard of beauty has been effected and changed by various external conditions including gender, occupation, level of education, climate, race, age, ethical belief and others. However, the domain of beauty and the bisected concept regarding the beauty of crudeness has remained mostly unchanged. Nowadays, via experiencing industrialization among other rapid chronological changes as well as the advancement in media which constantly demands new look, there has been a feeling of repulsion and dullness regarding existing ideals of beauty, and thus individualism and interesting sensibility are newly being incorporated into the domain of beauty. ‘Ugliness’ which was conceptually regarded as opposite of ‘beauty’, is no longer a negative factor, rather it is considered to be another domain of beauty. In particular, various types of the beauty of crudeness, possessed by designs in recent times, express liberal sensibility in various domain outside of rigid formality of beauty which is noble and classical. This study looks into the change in ideal beauty along with the time setting, the background and the concept regarding the emergence of the beauty of crudeness, and by analyzing the characteristics and examples for each of the types, in order to recognize the changes in aesthetical expression sensibility and expression sensibility present in the graphic design today.
