Corporate social responsibility is unquestionably one of the most important functions of business. Yet, there are contradicting views and strategies on how businesses should handle social contribution programs. Peter Drucker in 1984 introduced useful insights on the role of business in solving social problems. In 2011, Michael Porter discussed the ways business can conduct social contributions through the means of creating both social and business values. Until now, the two important concepts made by the renowned authorities in business were treated separately, and there were few studies that systematically examined the connection between them. In this paper, the two concepts are carefully examined and linked to give more integrated understanding on the approach of social responsibility and contribution of business. In addition, this paper incorporates Peter Drucker and Michael Porter in the recently developed frameworks (e.g., Moon et al. 2011, Moon 2012), and extends them further.
