Pyong Choon Hahm cultivated himself as a law professor in more than 10 years and applied in the public service for over 10 years. He devoted himself as a staff member in Korean presidential office(Blue House) and a Korean Ambassador in Washington DC. He was a typical of the pragmatic Confucian intellectuals who applied their theories to the real world. It is called uniting knowledge and conduct(知行合一). Although he took up a public office under the Park Chung-hee's authoritarian regime and Chun Doo-hwans neo-Military rule, he did defend the national interest, which became the foundation of a brilliant achievement of the Republic of Korea. The international political thought of Jurist Pyong Choon Hahm was based on the geopolitical position in the Republic of Korea to purse a relative autonomy for the United States to seek allies and the nation's self-respect. He was trying to maximize profits as a Korean Ambassador in America. Within pragmatic practice of international thought, his paradoxical theory between a pro-America and self-reliant from America was polished. While adjusting extremism, he tried to harmonize and sublate dichotomy between theory and reality, and he became one of true practitioners. Pyong Choon Hahm is an autonomous pro-American, so his spirit of the scholar is sublime and unique.
