Legal Approach toward Corpoarte Social Responsibility for Fashion Business

Recent social issues such as human trafficking in third world and environmental contamination by companies or the increase of unemployment rate trun all eyes on the role of a company to be expanding from the economic responsibility to the resolution of social issues. Researchers are stressing corporate social responsibility (CSR) such as sustainable management, and the public media, consumers, and civic organizations are showing interest in corporate social responsibility. Under such circumstances, the concept of CSR as well as corporate shared value (CSV) is coming to the fore recently. However, Korean fashion companies have shown such a small interest in CSR and considered donation as the entire social responsibility. This paper gave the highest priority to suggest a desirable direction for fashion companies by examining and diagnosing the current status of activities that fashion companies claim as their CSR activities along with the precise understanding of CSR. This study is focused on legal aspect and the dispute over IP, fair trade and labor issues. This paper provides an opportunity for Korean fashion companies to recognize the importance of CSR and provides basic data helpful for the establishment of CSR on a legal perspective, Comparative study will provide the future of Korean Fashion industry’s CSR with some of new legislation based on foreign developed nations’ advanced legal approach.
