A Case Study on Hospital Interior Colour Design Reflecting Feng Shui

'Feng Shui' is the harmony and balance with the natural flow of the forced energy. Feng Shui provides practical methods to strengthen the positive energy in our surroundings and to help healing. Therefore, Feng Shui can support the colour design for hospital interior. Recently, the space design tends to emphasize the humanity and quality of life, so a hospital serves as the functional environment for healing in the high technology through colour design. It is special interest that the various colours are used for hospital interior design. so white colour is no more used for hospital. The purpose of this study is to suggest one of method to plan colour design for hospital interior using Feng Shui. The example chosen for this study is Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital which was constructed in 2009. Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital planned the colour design for improving health and psychological status of patients. The colour design of this hospital has been analysed through Feng Shui theory. As a result, this study confirms that the colour design of Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital was related to Feng Shui theory. This study can explain the possibility of using Feng Shui as the theory for hospital interior colour design in the future.
