디자인관련 대학의 기초공통교육과정에 관한 연구

본 연구는 현재 파운데이션코스를 시행하고 있는 미국 상위권 대학들을 선정하여 각 유형별 도입배경, 운영실태, 입시제도, 교과목 편성경향 등을 조사하였고 이를 토대로 현재 운영 중인 국내 기초공통교육과정과의 비교 분석을 통하여 한국과 미국의 기초 디자인교육에 어떠한 차이점이 있는 확인해보고 이를 토대로 국내 기초공통교육과정의 문제점을 분석해 보고자 하였다. 연구결과 미국의 파운데이션코스의 경우 바우하우스의 교육이념을 배경으로 학생들의 디자인적 사고 및 표현력 확장에 중점을 두고 있었다. 반면 국내 대학들은 주로 대학의 구조조정과 학부제 시행등과 같은 대학 운영의 효율성 개선을 위한 목적과 무실기전형 확대에 따른 기초교육의 강화라는 목적을 둔 통합형 교육을 시행하고 있었다. 또한 교육 내용에 있어서도 미국 대학들의 경우 Drawing, Painting, 3D Design, Writing, Art History 등과 같은 교과목을 통하여 기본적인 표현력 확대에 중점을 두고 있는 반면 국내 대학들은 학과제를 바탕으로 한 전공 기초교육의 경향을 나타내는 차이점을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 미국의 파운데이션코스의 대부분이 학생들들 사고 및 표현력 확장이라는 목적을 가지고 통합교육을 시행하고 있듯이 국내 대학들이 미국의 파운데이션코스를 성공적으로 도입하기 위해서는 무엇보다도 각 대학들의 도입 목적에 적합한 교육 프로그램이 개발이 우선되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the foundation courses of high-ranking American universities including what made them introduce foundation courses, how to run the courses, college admission system and program content. It's basically meant to make a comparative analysis of their programs and common basic curriculums of our country in an effort to determine differences between Korean and American basic design education and problems with the common basic curriculums in our country. The foundation courses of the U.S.A. was based on the educational ideology of Bauhaus and focused on the improvement of the design-oriented thinking and expressiveness of students. In contrast, domestic colleges mainly aimed to step up restructuring or introduce the faculty system in order to boost their operational efficiency, and provided integrated education to strengthen basic education along with the expansion of the screening process without practical tests. In terms of educational content, there were differences between the American and domestic colleges in educational content as well. The American colleges focused on fostering basic expressiveness through the courses of drawing, painting, 3D design, writing or art history, whereas the domestic colleges had a tendency to put weight on basic concentration requirements based on department program. The American foundation courses mostly offered integrated education to bolster the thinking faculty and expressiveness of students. Accordingly, domestic colleges should direct their efforts into the development of good educational programs in consideration of the goal of the introduction of American foundation courses in order to ensure the successful introduction of these courses.
