This study examined the mediation effects of social support in the relation between Korean language competence and culture adaptation of married immigrant women. The research aimed to be used as a baseline data for the family stabilizing policy and program development..For the analysis, the participants consist of married immigrant women from Gwangju city and J province. Social supports as a mediating variable consist of informal support(family, friend) and formal support(self help group, expert group). The findings are as following. First, Korean language competence affects culture adaptation, but family support, self-help group, and expert group mediated partially, whereas the friend support has no mediating effect. Second, the mediating effects of formal and informal supports between culture adaptation and Korean language competence were examined. The results showed that the family support has partially mediating effect while Korean language competence partially mediated among self-help support and expert support. As a result, the role of social support as a mediating variable between Korean language competence and culture adaptation in immigrant women is very important. Thus, this study strongly proposed to buildup Korean language program connected to the community so that it improve the culture adaptation and social support efficiency.
