학부 중심 통합 디자인 교육의 이론과 실재

The development of telecommunication technology and competitive market condition has brought unprecedented attention on the value the design of a product. This trend led to the need of creative minds who can integrate manufacturing technology, human-centered design, and marketing, which started establishment of educational programs converging different disciplines. Meanwhile, there has been less efforts on the integration of design sub-domains whose definitions originate from industrial revolution. In our study, we assume that modern trends of human-centeredness, visual integration of environment, and technology-driven domains weakens the meaning of the boundaries between the sub-domains, and observed the pros and cons of undergraduate-level integrated design education. Through the surveys and interviews, and analysis on the design artefacts we found that (1) teachers must aware of the gap of manufacturing, design, and evaluation methodology between the sub-domains, (2) students must be prepared theoretically and skillfully for the integrative design thinking and execution, (3) there should be flexibility in the selection of the topic and item, and (4) support from the university and the industry is desired.
