초록
1930년대는 우리 현대문학사에서 역동적인 가능성을 엿볼 수 있는 시대이다. 이에김현승(1913∼1975)은 1930년대 시단에 등단하여 1970년대 중반까지 자기의 시세계를독특하게 구축해온 시인으로 평가된다. 김현승의 시세계는 윤리성을 기반으로 ‘고독’의 문제를 시로 승화시켰으며 그의 신념과 의지는 인간적인 고뇌와 정신적인 가치로서 ‘양심’을 해명하고 있다. 이러한 윤리성은내면 중심의 상상력에서 비롯된 것으로 인간적인 차원에서 인간정신을 옹호하고 있으며,고독의 원리를 새롭게 인식하게 한다. 그리하여 그는 시인의 사회적 이상으로서 사회정의를 실현하고자 하며, 이때의 사회 정의란 인간다운 삶을 영위하고 인간의 본질을실현하는 과정과 연관되어, 사회 정의와 실현을 위한 ‘양심’, 인간다운 삶을 영위하고자하는 내면적인 ‘고독’이 함축되어 나타난다. 이러한 ‘고독’에 대한 천착은 부조리한 역사적현실을 올바르게 파악하고 정의를 수호할 수 있는 투사적 의지의 발로이며, 고독을 통해서 자신 안에 갇히는 것이 아니라. 타자와 연대할 수 있는 구원의 통로로서 인간의 본질적 세계에 도달하게 된다. 존재의 소리로서의 ‘양심’은 고독 속에서 신앙과 양심이 공존하면서 신적인 세계와인간적인 세계를 매개하는 통로로 작용한다. 그의 ‘고독한 양심’은 인간의 본능적인 욕구를 극복하는 도덕적이고 윤리적인 견제기능으로서 양심은 윤리적 행동을 규율하는 근원적인 원리이며, 그것은 고독의 계기를 통과한 다음에 사회적인 자아의 윤리성을 형성한다. 양심의 소리로서의 ‘고독’은 신성을 향한 의지와 자유를 향한 ‘양심’이 공존하는 것이다. 김현승의 고독은 신앙으로부터 소외된 인간의 본질을 회복하려는 능동적인 행위로서신과 인간의 경계선상에서 갈등하는 인간적인 고독이며, 가장 견고하고도 순수한 경지인초월적 경험을 예비하는 내면의 고독을 통해서 윤리성을 입증하는 것이다. 이렇듯 여기에서 발현되는 ‘양심’, 특히 고독을 통해서 도달하게 되는 양심은 인간다운삶을 향하여 사회정의를 욕망하는 사람들간의 연대의지를 나타내고 있다. 또한 현재적삶을 올바르게 살아가기 위한 무기로써, 비양심이 지배하는 시대의 대응책으로써 ‘고독’과 ‘양심’은 자신을 끌고 가는 힘이다.
Abstract
The 1930s is an age of watching dynamic possibility in the history ofKorean modern literature. Kim Hyeon Seung(1913∼1975) made his literarydebut in the 1930s and uniquely constructed his poetic world until themid-1970s. Kim Hyeon Seung's poetic world sublimes the matter of 'loneliness' intoa poem based on ethics and his belief and will clarifies 'conscience' as humansuffering and mental value. The ethics is originated from inner-centeredimagination, advocates the human mind in the human level, and helps usrecognize the principle of loneliness newly. He, therefore, intends to realizesocial justice as poetry's social ideal and the social justice is associated withthe process of enjoying human life and realizing human essence. Then, itshows the implication of 'conscience' for the realization of social justice andinner 'loneliness' to enjoy human life. The inquiry into the 'loneliness' is an expression of fighter's will to graspirrational reality of history correctly and protect justice. One are not confinedwithin themselves, but reach the essential world of human being as a passageof salvation that can be solidified with others through 'loneliness'. 'Conscience' as the sound of existence works as a passage where faithand conscience coexists in loneliness and to mediate the world of god andthe world of human being. His 'lonely conscience' functions as moral andethical check to overcome human's instinctive desire. Conscience is afundamental principle to regulate ethical behaviors and forms the ethics ofsocial self after passing through a loneliness meter. Moreover, 'loneliness' as the sound of conscience is the coexistence of willtoward sanctity and 'conscience' toward freedom. Kim Hyeon Seung's loneliness is an active act to recover the essence of human beings alienatedfrom faith, is human loneliness that conflicts in the boundary between godand human being, and proves ethics through inner loneliness to preparetranscendental experience, the strongest and purest stage. 'Conscience' revealed from this, especially loneliness reaching throughloneliness, represents the will of solidarity between people who desire socialjustice for human life. 'Loneliness' and 'conscience' is power leading oneselfas a countermeasure of the age dominated by the conscienceless and armsto live the present lilfe.
