예술과 패션에 나타난 마스크 디자인의 조형성 비교

Background In fashion, mask design is increasing in use and its product launch frequency is increasing as well. Also, mask design collaborations between artists and fashion brands are appearing in the field of art. Therefore, a systematic research of mask design form which can be utilized and applied to both designs in fashion and art needs to be conducted. Methods The methods of the study included a review of related books, other literature, and internet research, to investigate the background of mask design prevalence and positive cases of mask design. The study range was limited to mask designs that appeared in the fields of fashion design and art in the last 10 years, considering the year that mask designs started becoming prevalent in fashion. Photo data were collected through accredited web data. Osborn’s Checklist, which is used in developing creative designs, was used to categorize collected design types. Through that the formative characteristics of the masks in each category were derived, frequency analysis, and cross analysis were performed. Results First, the conversion-type mask design was major figure in the field of art. In the fashion field, the simplification-type of mask was the major design. Second, according to cross tabulation, art and fashion mask designs showed significant difference in independence and homogeneity between the two. Conclusion By examining the results of this research, we found that there are intersections between art and fashion masks' design similarities and differences. This research can be a basis for a future research by providing systematic data in creating, developing and utilizing mask design collaborations between the two fields.
