초록

(Background and Purpose) Street trees, such as those planted in the sidewalks, are used to improve the cityscape, remediate vehicle exhaust emissions, reduce noise, induce the flow of clean air, decrease temperatures in the urban core, and provide shade. It is need to systematic diagnosis and management by recovering the functions of improving urban environments in order to improve urban landscape. Therefore, this study aims to quantitatively and qualitatively enhancegreen areas in the Guro-gu area, and to suggest a plan for the creation and management of street trees and green road margins. The growth of trees were diagnosed, and improvements to the urban environment proposed through a comprehensive investigation of street trees and those planted on the edges of green roads for the creation of an attractive urban environment. (Method) The survey area of Guro-gu in Seoul is an industrial district, and is a legacy of the industrial era in South Korea. Because of its relatively under-developed urban area and poor roadside conditions, the planting of street trees and the establishment of green sidewalks are required. To make a plan of improving urban green quality and quantity and construct pleasant environment of Guro-gu, the growth of plants were surveyed and vital degree of trees were assessed by total survey of street trees and green strips. And to improve urban environment, design methods of street trees and green strips were suggested. (Result) There were 74 routes of streets, 8,980 trees with 10 species of street trees respectively in Guro-gu. They were assessed as 'good' of 7.238(80.6%), 'average' of 1,211(13.5%) and 'poor' of 531(5.9%). Gingko biloba, Platanus occidentalis were up to 58.3% of total street trees of Guro-gu, a little low compare to Seoul of 74.9%. It was needed to make a special comprehensive plan of such streets as Gyeonginro, Gunggonggil, Gurodonggil, Dorimro et al. The streets were classified 7 street types reflecting the characteristics of Guro-gu with high proportion of industry sites. The plants selection criteria were established to emphasize the symbolism and discrimination of street types and suitable plants were proposed. Finally, the peculiar strategies for establishing unique and outstanding street trees and green vegetative strips to reflect the functional and scenic features and placeness of Guro-gu were suggested such as ground cover type, shrub group type, multiple layers type, flower bed type, street park type, designed planting curb type etc.
