The decision to use health services tends to be influenced by the healthcare consumers’ perspectives on various factors. Awareness of the choice of provider and amount of utilization emerge from two angles: subjective assessment of dental providers, and dental needs on the basis of health status. This study analyzes the effect of dental consumers’ needs and choice of providers on utilization level, which is usually affected by dental provider characteristics. A two-part model was used for the analysis, which based on a provider-related factor demand model using data from the Korean Health Panel. In the first step, logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the use or non-use of dental services based on provider-related factors, and in the second step, a negative binomial regression analysis was used to determine the amount of dental services used based on provider-related factors. According to an analysis of dental service users and non-users, provider-related factors do not influence choice of dental clinic. They do, however, have a significant effect on the quantity of dental use. Two of the five provider-related factors that were investigated, namely “trust in the provider” and “careful listening,” had an especially significant impact on dental utilization. There study results are expected to provide practical and strategic implications for dental healthcare providers, while demonstrating that the assessment process by healthcare consumers is an important component in the quality of healthcare service.
